#TBT: Happy 70th Birthday to The Maine Turnpike
Can you just imagine for a moment when Maine didn't have a turnpike?!
70 years ago, New England's first ever 'superhighway' was opened and donned The Maine State Turnpike. In 1941 it was voted into law to create an agency that would construct this massive project. The first segment of the pike was 45 miles long starting in Kittery. Then, over the years it continued to grow. Now, could you even imagine not having the Maine Turnpike? Route 1 would be a nightmare! Thank you to WMTW Channel 8 for the history lesson!
