What would you do after you found metal in your meal?

Here's the story:

After a morning of tooling around in southern Maine my wife and I decided on breakfast, the only question was where?  So, we hopped into the car and went to look for a place.  On the way I came up with the idea of trying a new place.

It serves breakfast and lunch.  It's pretty reasonable as far as prices go too.

The interior is nicely done.  The staff was attentive.

So, we order breakfast, drink our coffee and tea and VIOLA.....food.  Pretty good too.

I had two side dishes, one of home fries and the other was hash. Pretty tasty.  My wife ordered bacon and scrambled eggs and it was pretty good, but here comes the sad part.

Hidden in the home fries, and soon to be discovered after half the plate was consumed was a piece of metal.  The piece of metal was from a  scrubbing brush we later found out, but it was bright, shiny and curly.  I neglected to take a picture because I was too busy showing it to the waitress who took it to the owner/chef and came back shortly and apologized.  We were done eating.

She brought the check and it was for the full amount.  Now, in a service business, you have great opportunities to make someone LOVE your business by treating them kindly at least.  We brought the check up to the cashier to pay.

"How was your breakfast?" she asked.  That opened the door to tell her the story,  What she said next floored me.  "Oh really, we need to change that, it's the SECOND TIME this has happened."

Was I expecting anything?  Yes.  Hopefully I thought that maybe the plate of food would be taken off the bill.  But, that didn't happen.  What do you think?  Was I expecting too much?  What would you have done in this situation?
