I Feel Like an Idiot After Getting Booted in Portland
It's true confessions time. I was booted in Portland, Maine the other day. I 100% deserved it. I had a few outstanding tickets, and well...I forgot. We all make mistakes, but here's where I up the idiocy to a whole new level.
I pay for parking in Portland, and often scoot in so late, that I park on the street to save time. I even have the city's parking app! And yet, I can...
HOLY COW! I'M WRITING THIS ARTICLE ABOUT NOT PAYING FOR PARKING AND I LITERALLY JUST FORGOT TO PAY FOR PARKING!
Hold, please. I HAVE to go see if I got yet another ticket.
No ticket...where was I. Oh, right. I'm an idiot. I've seen a fair number of boots in my time. But I have lived or worked in Portland for a few decades, and never gotten one until my recent birthday weekend. Can I blame it on old age? Maybe that's why the lettering on the sticker was so BIG!
Let me break down the warning for you. It's got a couple of things going on to make you feel even dumber. First, if you've gotten a ticket within the last 10 days, those are NOT included in the charge to get the boot off. So you'll have a little something else to look forward to.
It also warns not to move or attempt to move the car while the boot is on. You're gonna see some serious fines and a damaged car.
And the best part, you don't get that pretty orange boot off until everything is paid up. This episode of dumb cost me over 200 dollars. And I STILL forgot to pay for parking today.
Can anyone out dumb me? I'm gonna doubt it.
