If you see a political sign you don't agree with it's best to leave it alone.

That's the message from Newburyport City Marshal Mark Murray and Newburyport Police following reports of political sign thefts which can lead to serious criminal charges.

“Regardless of political affiliation, Americans have a right to express political opinions via signs in their yards, and those who trespass, vandalize or steal in an effort to interrupt those rights face arrest and prosecution,” Murray said. “The Newburyport Police Department encourages everyone to respect each others’ opinions and property.”

Murray asked anyone seeing a sign being stolen or vandalized to call Newburyport Police at 978-462-4411.
