#TBT: A History Of Old Orchard Beach And How It Looked In 1960 [VIDEO]
Since 1631 Old Orchard Beach has been a popular tourist destination when its first settler, Thomas Rogers established a “Garden by the Sea”. In fact, the town got its name from the apple orchard in Saco that Thomas abandoned.
When you think of OOB, you instantly think of the PIER. But did you know that for a while it used to be the longest steel pier in the world with its own locomotive shuttle. The pier has been home to casinos, restaurants, and other attractions, despite being repeatedly damaged by fires and storms.
Back in 1911 The Pier was the start/finish line for auto racing at the beach!
