Kindergarten Kids In Massachusetts Taught Nursery Rhyme In Case Of School Shooting
According to Fox 25 News in Boston, parent Georgy Cohen noticed the poster while visiting the school. Fox 25 says Cohen told the Boston Globe the poster was "jarring." She went on to tell the newspaper that students didn't have to deal with those types of threats when she was in kindergarten.
The reports says Cohen and Somerville Public Schools declined to identify the school, but district officials confirmed it was the work of one teacher and is not used across all of the city's schools.
The Globe reports, the school released a statement saying; “Students in Somerville and across the country know how unnatural this is, as evidenced by their vocal leadership and advocacy this year in response to continuing school shootings. Just like school fire drills, lockdown drills have sadly become a common practice in schools, and educators do everything they can to reduce students’ anxiety and stress.”
Things sure have changed since I learned this song in Kindergarten...and when I taught it to my sons.
