Adventures of Annie: Playing Radio DJ, a Yummy Breakfast & Kayaking in NS
This year, instead of a 'Staycation' you should take a 'Close-by-cation' with The CAT Ferry to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia!
Yarmouth and Acadian Shores had me up and ready to go exploring Yarmouth, NS the next morning. Me and my fellow DJ's left our jobs for the weekend only to find ourselves playing radio on Yamouth's own Y 95.5 CJLS. Local jock the fabulous Wade Cleveland had us on his morning show for about an hour and it was a blast! I just hope the locals could understand my southern accent!
After the cameo on the local radio station, we walked over to The Shanty Cafe for a wonderful breakfast! This local restaurant is not only there to feed you, but to also feed the souls of locals that need a helping hand. Operator Michael Carbonell works with non profit YACRO to hire individuals that have struggled to get jobs due to disability, mental illness, age, language and literacy. It was heartwarming to hear his story and to see his compassion to help others. And, the food was fantastic! They also recently opened The Store Next Door and they specialize in making furniture and gifts out of used broken hockey sticks! Click here to check them out online.
After I was stuffed with breakfast goodness, it was on to Lake Ellenwood for some kayaking with Song of the Paddle. This was my favorite part of the trip. The owner and operator Becky Cottreau and assistant Alex had the best vibrant personalities! They made me feel at ease getting into the kayak and onto the water. It was a blast!
